    Welcome to Mr Risman's Homepage!

I am a 6th grade Mathematics and Science teacher at College Ready Middle Academy#7  in South Los Angeles.  This is my 8th year teaching and my second with the Alliance for College Ready Charter schools.  I received my B.A. from Columbia University in New York City and my teaching credential is from CSUN.  In my little free time I'm an avid lover of LA sports teams, going to concerts, and the great outdoors.

    Updates:
For the next two weeks (11/28-12/12)  period 1/6 and 2/5 are going to focus primarily on Math. Math homework will be assigned daily and Math Spirals will be needed in class everyday.  Science Spirals should also be brought to school, since on certain days some Science will still be taught, but Math instruction will be taught daily.
    Re-test for Scientific Method Quiz
For those students who would like to improve their grade on the Scientific Method Quiz there will be a re-test Tuesday September 27 after school. Please plan to be here until 4:30 so you will have enough time to take the whole quiz.

    Progress Reports
On Wednesday September 21st, we distributed to your student their 10 week Progress Report.  They are to have the progress report signed and shown to their Advisory teacher.  Then they can take it back home for you to keep.  This is important to us here at CRMA#7 to ensure that you have seen and discussed their grades with them.  If you have not seen them yet please don't hesitate to ask the school for an additional copy.  Students that are receiving No Passes in any class should plan to attend after school tutoring sessions to help them.
    Supplies Update
As many students are continually losing their notes and therefore have nothing to study from, I'm asking that besides the school supplies listed below that each student also has two separate single subject college ruled spiral notebooks. One for Math and one for Science.  This will be where they keep all their notes and only class notes will be written in them.  They still will need a binder to keep homework and other various assignments in.  They also will still need loose leaf paper for classwork, and homework.  Their notebook should not be used to do homework in.  They need separate paper for that.  Thank you.

     Supplies
Students are needed to have the following supplies in my classroom daily:
2 Spiral Notebooks college rule(one for Math and one for Science)
Loose leaf college ruled paper (not attached to a spiral notebook)
    At least two sharpened pencils
A hand held pencil sharpener and a zip lock bag (to collect the pencil shavings)
An eraser (not attached to a pencil)
A red pen and a highlighter (any color)
    A chapter book

    Additional support
If your student is struggling with their work in my class or even if they just need a quiet place to work, know that I stay in my classroom after school until at least 4:30pm everyday (even longer on some days) except for Wednesdays.  I am here to help.  We here at College Ready Middle Academy #7 are committed to helping your student succeed.
